Subject: IMPORTANT:Kidde AirSense Remediation Programme

Over the past few months we may have discussed that we need to upgrade the software on our detectors to fix a drift error and the fact that a detector fault could take too long to be reported. So we are sending out the attached letters to let you know what needs to be done.

I have attached the latest Remediation Programme documents ((KAS-RPI-01), (KAS-RCOR-01), (KAS-RTS-01) and (9-14834 Rev02)). These are the ‘Introduction’, ‘Confirmation of Receipt’, ‘Ticksheet’ and ‘Installation Sheet’ forms, respectively.

These documents explain the need to upgrade the software plus a form we require you to complete and return to us. The completed form (KAS-RCOR-01) allows you to tell us how many kits you require and what the mixture of detector is. We would not expect to supply these all in one go but in batches as required. The programme allows sufficient time for the detectors to be upgraded during routine maintenance visits.

As you will see, there are four main groups of detectors:

1. All detectors manufactured from 1st January this year. These are not affected and so are not subject to this exercise.

2. Micra 25, Micra 100 and Ex units and OEM variants manufactured from June 2006 to December 2012. These need to be updated with the latest firmware.

3. Stratos HSSD 2 units and OEM variants manufactured from June 2002 to December 2012. These need to be updated with the latest firmware.

4. Everything else (ie Micra 25, Micra 100 and Ex units and OEM variants manufactured before June 2006 and Stratos HSSD 2 units and OEM variants manufactured before 2002) needs the hardware to be updated as well as the firmware, there was a change in the fan being used and we need to allow for that.

However the Stratos HSSD 2 detectors will all be over 11 years old and so could be considered to be beyond their normal ten year service life. For the Micras and Ex units, we’ll need to send an updated main board, but some of this group will also be over ten years old.

For the time being the main focus is on groups 2 & 3.
