Last year we supplied and commissioned an Advanced with Hochiki system for an Electrical Contractor, I was recalled to site as the electrical contractor had told the customer that the system was faulty. I attended a meeting we the customer and the EC , fault being the magnetic door hold back were releasing with no apparent reason " what do you think " was the question , reply " probably the PSU " no replied the EC we have checked it and it's all okay so must be Fire Alarm System. So took myself and multimeter to the 2A PSU , removed the cover and could smell and see it was overheating , so asked the question how many hold backs do you have , every bedroom was the reply . Well check with meter but it is overloaded which the meter confirmed , reply from the EC you supplied it , so all when you are asked to supply a power supply ask him to supply details of all equipment he is going to purchase and do a load calc.
This was the customers first experience.
Two months later asked to investigate a problem at another Nursing Home owned by the customer , Protec Analogue Addressable reporting Ohms fault , 13 devices missing and isolator illuminated , customer inform me they had already had two quotes , one to replace the system and another to change the faulty panel . Explained both diagnosis were incorrect and we could sort the problem.
This was the customers second experience.
Had a phone call yesterday from the first site Mx5000 2 loop with Hochiki , I have our maintenance company on site which is the same company that maintains the Protec system and diagnosed a faulty system , they need the code . I replied that it would be the manufacturers default code , he asked what it was and I refused . Why should I assist an EC who obviously does not have the competence to work on Life Safety System, am I correct ,and would like to to show the customer the replies to this thread.
