Sounders with a bell tone

Hi all not been on here for a bit.

Has any body come across sounders that have a bell tone before?

We have a tender to complete and in the scope there is a system on one floor which is to remain which is on bells, the scope says that if a sounder is used with a bell tone this will be acceptable.

Any help would be great.

MZX Control panel systems

Hi All,

I have been asked by 2 large clients if we will maintain the fire alarm systems.

The systems on both sites have MZX technology Panels are both addressable MX250 control panel range with MZX technology devices.

I was under the impression that the system is closed protocol I also spoke to a friend who works for ADT he told me the same. The customer called ADT who told them it was 'Open Protocol'

I understand there are many views as to what constitutes an 'open protocol' product.

Any information would be great as to how far I can maintain this system and what I cant do with the system. I believe ADT did give the customer all the code.

Linking Conventional Panels

Hi Guys

I was looking for some expert advise, I have been asked to look at linking about 6 conventional panels together. Below is what the client requests.
The conventional panels are old 2 zone Minerva panels its the one with the key switch to silence the sounders.

I don't think it is possible to be able to provide what the client is looking for but if you could have a look.

Should an alarm activation occur in any of the locations the sounders should operate in all locations. On hearing the sounders the staff in that area will check the panel for their location and determine where the activation has occurred. If it is not in their location the staff member will silence the panel and proceed to the area where the activation refers to in order to provide assistance if required. When the staff member presses the silence button on their panel it should only silence the sounders for their area and not other areas.

In addition an alarm activation in any of these areas needs to send a message to the security officers mobile phone alerting them to the fire and location of same.

is it DC1154 card or E3G070 module compatible with that panel?

Unexplained False Alarms

Hi Guys

I have a system with a duo-cel 8 zone conventional panel and gent 7800 type optical smoke detectors. The zone in the warehouse over the last couple of months has had some false alarms on certain detectors so with a hoist avalailable I replaced all the detectors . I am still getting false alarms .

The place is clean and at the time of the last false alarm the place had been closed for over 72 hours and then activated at 4am .

There are less than the max amount of detectors on the zone.
I have just changed to a different zone on the panel just incase it is that. Clutching at straws but desperate.

Any ideas would be great.

Gent Vigi EN54 - Onboard Sounder Outputs

a quicky ...

I'm going to fit an additional fire alarm beacon for a client next week, they have 3 Vigi en54's networked. I no longer have a laptop with a gent licence, so I was going to fit a conventional beacon and wire it back to a local fire panel.

I am trying to remember if the onboard sounder circuits on a Vigi EN54 are non-configurable? will they trigger on any sector, work on sector linking and trigger from the master sector on the fire panel network?

If no, can the sounder outputs be programmed in the panels engineer menu?

Its been a while since I have worked with the wonderful Vigi's Rolleyes

came across an unusual one last night called out to a fire alarm in fire. when i got there the panel was powered down by one of the tenants in the apartment block as he said he could not silence the panel. i have work on the panel lately and had no problem with the controls powered it back up and set of alarm to see for myself and sure enough the panel would not silence and none of the controls were working. has anyone come across a similar problem with this type of panel or is it just a faulty panel i have

Have a Ziton ZP3 with a permanent message on screen
"Other: Nothing to Display", this is also on repeater panel, no faults on panel but going into the menu and reset is a bit slower to react. Created faults and fires, these come in on panel but screen still displays message, has anyone come across this before

Advanced MX4402 commissioning problem

Hi,

I was wandering if anybody can help me on this one. I have replaced an existing conventional panel with an advanced mx4402. . We have added additional devices and and replaced all of the others with apollo xp95 (19 mcp, 29 opt smoke and 3 heat.
My problem is, I've tried to do the auto learn but it is failing to pick up any of the devices. The wiring has continuity on both positives, both negatives and both screens. (10 ohm on each) looked through the panel readings and its coming back with a loop consumption of around 800mA which is obviously over the max.
There are shorts between any of the wiring, all seems right. With such a small number of devices I would expect this to be 20mA quiescent, tops.

Would be very grateful any advice.

Menvier sensor head change policy

I've recently been browsing through the CF3000 manual and noticed a paragraph that concerns me slightly.

There is a section headed 'Maintenance' which details the usual daily, weekly quarterly etcetera recommendations but there's also a paragraph headed "Every 2-3 years" with wording exactly as follows:

"Every 2-3 years: Replace or return the smoke detectors for cleaning to ensure correct operation and freedom from false alarms. Special equipment is required for cleaning smoke detectors. Consult Cooper Lighting & Safety."

Questions questions...

Surely Menvier heads have a greater life expectancy than three years max?; Is this clause communicated to prospective clients during the sales process?; How as an engineer/maintenance company are you to justify your recommendation that every three years, the client effectively needs a replacement system?; What implications are there for customers who don't follow the manufacture advice and spend out every three years for new heads?

Should a fatal fire occur in an albeit regularly maintained, Menvier-protected premises - if the heads were four years old, could the premises management be prosecuted under the RRFSO for failing to maintain in line with manufacturers recommendations?

Interestingly, not all manufacturers have a default replacement age - Gent being one.

I understand that technology has a finite life span - generally 10 years, but to recommend the detectors being changed to "ensure correct operation" without actually being technologically obsolete I find more than surprising.

Really interested in your opinions on this one...

Morley ZX2se missing MCP

Had a job to day to replace a loop card on this panel which had been ordered by another engineer.
Panel running Morley IAS devices.
The fault was panel showing missing 3 MCP's.
The MCP's operated correctly and analog values normal.
Did not expect it to be loop card but fitted it as instructed.
The card did have componets that looked to have overheated but operated all devices OK
Now the loop card was not the problem as expected. Morley tech useless
and spoke to me as if I was an Idiot.
Has anyone come across anything like this I know I have not.
Is it possible for fault to lock into memory and not clear.
Any suggestions welcomed.

XP 95 Disconnected fault

Got a site with a few xp95 heads now and again panel will show disconnected faults for a random device - usually i find warped bases to be the problem on but can only clear the fault with a new device.

Does anyone know if these detectors usually (ion / opt) die for no apparent reason?

hey guys,
we've inherited a site with one of the above panels. the sounder circuits on the panel appear to be blown so needs a new panel.
the detectors are ECO2003 range.

just wandering if there are any compatable panels still in production out there? as the client does not want to have to replace the entire system just because of the panel.
